It’s the dust you can’t see – that kills you
If you’ve ever been unlucky enough to get a face full of sawdust, the chances are you coughed and sneezed, and thanked your lucky stars you didn’t breathe anything into your lungs. Your lungs actually come with their own set of filters – the hairs in your nose (for the big stuff) and very tiny hairs down the first part of your wind pipe that sweep away the smaller stuff.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t design us to industrial standards. Your body’s air filters can’t cope with the very fine, toxic particles (see fig 1) that you generate when working with certain woods, mdf or certain metals.The fine sawdust that comes from your sander or the tiny chips that fly off your lathe are obvious workplace hazards.
These can be removed easily with a conventional dust extractor. But what about the very fine particles, the stuff that floats out through the dust bag – the dust you can’t see. Microclene Air Filters are designed to be used along side your main dust extractor.
You can use your dust extractor to get rid of the big dust – but you need a Microclene Air Filter to get rid of the really small stuff. You’ll still need to wear a dust mask when you’re working, but at least you’ll be safe when you stop for a cuppa.
