Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIM)

Barco CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing system) is proving a popular world wide choice for production & quality control monitoring.

Barco, of Belgium, a leading manufacturer of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) for discrete production and quality control; with a focus on the plastics, pharmaceutical and textile industries, has announced a number of successful BarcoCIM installations throughout the world.

The BarcoCIM is a system for computer integrated manufacturing, with data driven automation that affects all systems or subsystems within the manufacturing environment; design and development, production, marketing and sales and field support and service. The BarcoCIM system can perform production monitoring, scheduling and planning, statistical process monitoring, quality analysis, personnel monitoring, order status reporting and lot tracking.

Pailpac of South Africa, a leading plastics moulding company, have installed a BarcoCIM system for their production facilities in New Germany, Natal, which will monitor the production and quality control of the sites 70 injection moulding machines. The system will provide scheduling and real time production monitoring and reporting. Based on the product inspection plans, the system generates inspection orders for each individual production order. Weighing scales at the machines are connected to the BARCO data units for real time continuous control of the product weight. Other product related quality information is entered by the operators on ‘QC stations’ installed throughout the plant.

Schoeller Wavin Systems of the Netherlands, a market leader in creative plastic systems, have installed four BarcoCIM Systems in their production facilities in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and in their Spanish facility. The systems were chosen by SWS due to the flexibility of the software, connectivity to different ERP systems and the multi-site consolidation software that stores the data of the different sites on a central database. This allows the head office to compare the productivity of all the plants and provides the engineering department with the information they require to do benchmarking on the moulds used in their various production areas.

Barco are represented in Oceania by HBM Plastics Technologies.
