Cost Effective Silo Weighing Systems Increase Plant Efficiency.

Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch recently fitted silo weighing systems to four existing granulation silos at Pope’s Woodville plant in SA, to automatically warn operators of low product levels in each of the silo weighing systems.

Most industrial silos are fitted with multiple support legs (usually 6-8) whick makes it very costly to fit load cells. To minimise project costs, pairs of the original eight support legs were modified to share a common load point which was then mounted on a single 10t capacity industrial load cell to create a very cost effective silo weighing systems.

In total, four load cells are fitted in each silos weighing systems for a working capacity of 30t per silo. The installation also included restraining bolts being fitted to the loadcell beams to prevent external forces such as wind, from lifting the silos off the loadcells. Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch fitted each silo with a Rinstrum R5000 digital weight indicator with high/low level alarms.
