Lightweight, tough plastic fans

Air movement specialist Fanquip has increased the occupational health and safety value of its long-standing electric-powered portable purging fan.

It now manufactures a version in rugged, lightweight plastic which is particularly suitable for anyone working in confined spaces where occupational health and safety laws are usually strongly enforced. The weight of this equipment is considerably less than the company’s traditional metal case version. This allows it to be easily carried around by hand or moved from section to section during works in progress. Arguably the only Australian-manufactured product of its type, the plastic portable purging fan’s casing is made from a very tough compound so as to withstand the hard knocks expected in industrial applications.

The equipment is currently available in 300 mm diameter blades, which is the most commonly sought size in the marketplace. Electric power technology is available in single-phase or three-phase operation and is available in an air driven version (predominantly for refineries and ships).

Areas of application include grease traps, sewers, factories, food processing plants, pharmaceutical laboratories, foundries, tunnels and excavations, mine operations, and general manufacturing and engineering businesses.

With OH&S laws cracking down on unhealthy – sometimes toxic – air in every industry, even if it is rarely used a method of air disposal has to be there. Work areas having a propensity to provide bad air will at some stage have to be purged and some equipment is not suited to doing this properly, which becomes a major problem if toxic air is being dealt with. Closed environments in particular can create a build up of fumes and gases, and if that environment is opened it can be dangerous.
