Improved Train Loading
Pebco has recently commissioned one of their UNI-LOAD Systems in South Africa for Anglo Coal. The UNI-LOAD System has two major differences to standard load-out methods: Chute positioning/movement and gate arrangements.
The Chute - Rather than transverse horizontally from the 'clear' (side) position to the 'load' position over the rail car, the UNI-LOAD System chute is fixed in position directly over the cars. When loading is required, the load-out operator actuates the chute which quickly swings downwards from a hinged pivot point.
The Gate - The non-jamming gate that regulates coal flow has been moved from a position at the top of the chute to the bottom of the chute.
These two features alone radically alter traditional load-out methods and improve the system in many important ways such as speed, uniformity of load, maintenance, dust control and safety.
To date, the UNI-LOAD System has compiled some impressive statistics. In a single 24-hour period, at a coal mine in Wyoming USA, 11 coal trains were loaded. Individual rail cars were loaded in as little as 20 to 22 seconds each, with 104-car unit trains being loaded in 32 minutes.
