Lightweight FRAS Pressure Piping

The new range of lightweight but rugged halogen-free flame-retardant anti-static (FRAS) pressure pipe now available from Calair, is engineered for use in materials handling and processing applications with fire or explosion risk management requirements.

The halogen- free FRAS compressed air and water piping breaks through previous barriers to the use of lightweight polymers in applications involving powders, methane, petro-chemicals, paints, solvents and volatile primary processing, says Calair Managing Director Mr John McNab.

The non-corrosive Australian manufactured product - tested to AS 1180.13A and AS 1180.10B -is eight times lighter than equivalent steel piping and easily jointed with a family of bronze alloy compression fittings. Calair’s safety colour-coded pipe systems are designed for radically simplified erection, disassembly and recycling within a fraction of the time taken to construct and change traditional metal products.

“The new formulation is designed to overcome hurdles in producing halogen free flame-retardant pressure pipe without degrading their overall performance, including impact resistance or pressure capability.”

Easily capable of handling typical pressures of 20 bar or more, the new halogen-free, low toxicity FRAS ranges, like other Calair product, produce no corrosive or toxic flue gases in the event of a fire.

The new FRAS pipe system is manufactured to the same standards of durability and quality as Calair gas and liquid pipe systems used in 8,500 applications in Australia and internationally, including one of Australia’s largest bulk materials handling companies, GrainCorp, which has used Calair (non FRAS) product to help overcome potential corrosion issues affecting pneumatic services at its Carrington port facility in Newcastle.
