Multi-Channel Wheel Load Scales Ensure SWL for Mobile Crane

Wheel Load Scales pads owned by a crane hire company in Western Australia were recently upgraded by Accuweigh’s Perth branch to multi-channel operation. Six digital weight indicators and a digital summing indicator were fitted to the client’s original Wheel Load Scales to readily identify various wheel weight combinations.

The multi-channel system comprise 6 x Wheel Load Scales of 10t capacity which are placed under the wheels of an aging Franner crane to ensure the SWL is not exceeded when lifting objects of unknown weight. The multi-channel weighing system was fitted into a custom housing to suit the client’s need for portable operation.

The original single channel indicator provided the bare minimum of weight information required to calculate load weights, but the multi-channel system now allows the Wheel Load Scales to be used to their full potential by displaying any combination of wheel loads.

Six individual digital weight indicators connect directly to the Wheel Load Scales to display individual wheel loadings and the master summing indicator displays the total crane loadings.
The digital summing indicator has three programmable hot keys for displaying regularly combined wheel load combinations at a single key press with a host more available through PLU’s.

Due to their new multi-channel weighing ability, the Wheel Load Scales are now being used for other general purpose weighing tasks and also for providing individual wheel weights on trucks being loaded to ensure compliance with legal axle loadings.
