Unattended Weighbridge Installed for SA Port

An unattended weighbridge was recently commissioned for weighing trucks accessing the Berth 29 Precinct of Flinders Ports in South Australia. Installed by Accuweigh’s Adelaide branch, this weighbridge is fitted with a Driver Control Station (DCS) to eliminate the need for a weighbridge operator to be present for weighing vehicles.

The Wharf Manager/Shift Operator enters all required driver selections into the unattended weighbridge’s Driver Control Station; such as ship name, products and destination details. Each driver is issued with a Dallas Tag which stores basic truck details such as owner, driver and the tare weights of the truck/trailer.

To initiate a weighing transaction, the driver enters the weighbridge, presses the tag to the tag reader for the Driver Control Station to store the net weight of the truck’s contents. The boom gate open and the traffic lights turn green to allow the truck to exit the weighbridge. To eliminate data entry confusion, Accuweigh’s DCS is fitted with a full colour touch screen which prompts the drivers to make selections from an onboard database without the need to type details into blank fields.

To ensure accurate vehicle weights, unattended weighbridges are required to be fitted with sensors to ensure the vehicle is correctly positioned on the weighbridge before allowing the weighing to proceed. In the Flinders Ports unattended weighbridge application, vehicles enter the weighbridge from either direction so the DCS controls the operation of a boom gate and a set of traffic lights to regulate traffic movements over the weighbridge.
