Large Platform Scales Weighing BHPs Kibbles

Large Platform Scales are being used at BHP’s Prominent Hill copper mine in South Australia. Supplied by Accuweigh’s Port Adelaide branch, the Large Platform Scales are used for weighing large metal buckets filled with copper ore from the mine.

Accuweigh’s Large Platform Scales are Australian made and fully hot dipped galvanised for strong corrosion resistance to weathering from the external environment in which they are used. Fitted with 4 x 30t capacity load cells, these Large Platform Scales have a high overload margin to cope with the bumps and knocks experienced when loading and unloading the 20t loaded kibbles.

After each kibble is weighed and the acquired weight reading logged to an external Driver Control Station (DCS), a volumetric ore sample is also weighed on a small bench scale for use as a reference of the Specific Gravity of the ore. Custom software records the weight data from both the sampling scales and the Large Platform Scales and produces a printed ticket showing itemised weights of each kibble and the sample weights.

The DCS is linked to the network server at BHP so the system can also be accessed by office staff to generate daily reports of copper ore received over the Large Platform Scales.
Accuweigh is Australia’s largest industrial weighing company and has eight branches covering all mainland states providing sales and service support on Large Platform Scales and all industrial weighing applications.
